European Medicines Agency (EMA)

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is a decentralized agency of the EU whose tasks are the scientific evaluation, supervision as well as safety control of medicinal products in the European Union.

The European Medicines Agency is a network organization governed by an independent Board of Directors. The activities of the EMA involve thousands of experts throughout Europe who carry out the work of the scientific committees.

The focus of the European Medicines Agency is on the approval of medicines within the European Union. To do this, companies must apply to the EMA for an authorization, which is issued by the European Commission. Once a drug has received this approval, it may be sold in the EU and EEA.
