NGS technology
A human genome comprises all the genetic information present in a cell. In 2000, sequencing such a genome still took about 10 years and cost about one billion USD. Technological progress now makes it possible to sequence a human genome within one day and reduce the cost to 1000 USD. NGS technology, developed by Professors Balasubramanian and Klenerman, is a major contributor to the fact that today more than one billion human genomes are sequenced every year, making it possible to detect diseases much more quickly and to understand their occurrence and progression.
