Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
In the European Union, medicinal products are under strict supervision by the Medicines Law, as well as the Good Distribution Practice (GDP). GDP controls the regulated and compliant transport of pharmaceuticals and their entire supply chain, to ensure the integrity and quality of medical devices and pharmaceutical shipments. Since 2013, drug manufacturers and wholesalers have been required to comply with the requirements of the GDP guidelines regarding quality management, equipment, personnel and premises, drug returns, as well as specific regulations for distribution and transportation of drugs. The requirements and their implementation are regularly assessed and verified by GDP inspections of the individual countries by means of specification and verification documentation.
