Verum
The scientific term verum is applied to drugs that contain pharmacologically active substances. A verum is used in clinical trials. While placebos with no effect are distributed to one group of subjects, the verum is distributed to the other group in order to determine its actual effect. Although the verum contains real drug substances, a placebo effect is also possible in this case. The treatment environment, the relationship and communication between physician and patient are strong influencing factors. Furthermore, the attitude of the individual subjects towards the drugs can impact the outcome.
